Virtus is now SafeParish™
Adults volunteering or working with minors within Our Family of Parishes must complete the SafeParish™ information. If you were enrolled in Virtus, you should have received an email to convert over to SafeParish™. If you did not or have questions, please the parish office at (513)732-2218.
SafeParish™ in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati
The 2018 Archdiocese of Cincinnati Decree on Child Protection is in effect for all entities in the diocese. The diocese statement governing this policy is:
All “employees” and “regular volunteers” as defined in the July 1, 2018 Decree on Child Protection must register with SafeParish™, complete a Child Awareness training session, receive an acceptable background check, and be approved by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati before they can have contact with children.
In addition, all employees within the Archdiocese of Cincinnati must be fingerprinted, complete a B4 Form, and be approved by the Office of Safe Environment for the Protection of Children and Youth before the new employee can have contact with children.
The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has announced that all SafeParish™ trained employees and volunteers are expected to keep current with all SafeParish™ continuing education sessions. Anyone who does not complete their quarterly continuing education session may not have any further contact with children. All leaders of each Archdiocesan institution, (i.e. pastors, principals, etc.) are responsible for enforcing this SafeParish™ policy.
Reporting Abuse
If you or someone you know has been abused at any time by an agent of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati (priest, deacon, employee or volunteer), the Archdiocese urges you to report the abuse to the Ministry to Survivors of Abuse Coordinator at 513-421-3131 or 1-800-686-2724 as well as to the secular legal authorities.
Do You Plan to Volunteer?
The Archdiocesan Decree on Child Protection requires that all employees and volunteers who have regular contact with children register for a SafeParish™ account and complete a favorable criminal background check before working or volunteering with children. Volunteers may find more information and register for a SafeParish™ account by visiting SafeParish™.
NOTE: If you had an account through VIRTUS, use the same log in information in SafeParish™ that you had in VIRTUS to make sure all your information transfers over. You can update your personal information once your account is registered in SafeParish™ .
Fingerprinting
As part of the Decree, employees and volunteers must also submit to a criminal background check. Volunteers are required to complete the background check one time only online with Selection.com from within their SafeParish™ account. Only teachers, clerics, staff, and those who have lived outside of Ohio will need to be fingerprinted.
Fees
The cost of the background checks are $25. This fee will be paid by the parish through a Fastrax Token. Each token will have a corresponding number much like a “coupon code.” A volunteer may call the parish office or send an email requesting a token.
